Hi Growing Friend,

We're just going to call March "expect the unexpected" — on release dates and everything else! Any Big Brother fans in here?! 😂

I've been back in the thick of tax season for the first time in a few years and the days are flying by. But enough about that — I had so many questions come in about castor oil packs and I'm excited to dive deeper today!

My Castor Oil Pack Routine

When I first heard about castor oil packs I honestly felt intimidated. Is this too much? Is this for me? I waited what was probably years from the first time I heard about them before I actually tried them. Don't be me! This has become one of my favorite parts of my week and I want to make it feel as simple and approachable as possible for you.

The oil I use: I order Queen of the Thrones castor oil on Amazon. I love this brand because it's organic, third-party tested, and comes in an amber glass bottle — which is really important for preserving the integrity of the oil. Light and heat can degrade castor oil over time, so the packaging actually matters here.

How much oil to use: You don't need a lot — about a quarter-sized amount is plenty to start. You can always add a little more to make sure your entire abdomen is covered, but more oil doesn't mean more benefits. A thin, even layer is all you need.

My setup: I like to do this laying on the couch at night while I watch a show, so I ordered organic cotton cloths to layer over the oil on my stomach, with a heating pad on top. Some people prefer the wraparound style packs so they can move around freely — do whatever works best for your schedule and lifestyle!

Where I apply it: I rub the oil all over my stomach and around my right side to support liver detox in addition to the gut benefits. The liver sits on your right side, so extending the pack over that area helps stimulate bile flow and supports your body's natural detox process.

Do you need a heating pad? You don't have to use one, but the heat helps the castor oil penetrate deeper into the tissue, which means more benefits. If you have one, I'd recommend using it — even a low setting makes a difference.

What to Expect the First Few Times

If you're just starting out, give your body a little grace. Some people notice gentle digestive movement or feel slightly more tired than usual in the first week or two — that's your body responding and beginning to detox. Start with 3–4 times a week for the first month to build up the effects, then you can scale back to 1–2 times a week for maintenance. Consistency is what drives results here.

Your Questions Answered

How long until you see results? Everyone is a little different, but most people start noticing something within the first 2–4 weeks of consistent use. For me, the gut and sleep benefits came first — I noticed less bloating and falling asleep more easily within the first few weeks. The lymphatic and inflammation benefits took a little longer, closer to the 4–6 week mark. Stick with it — the results are cumulative.

How do you know if it's working? Great question! Some signs to look for: more regular digestion, less bloating, sleeping more deeply, feeling calmer in the evenings, and reduced puffiness or swelling. You might also notice subtle shifts in energy or skin clarity as your lymphatic system gets moving. Keep a simple mental note of how you feel before you start so you have a baseline to compare to — it's easy to forget how you felt before once things start improving!

As always, I'd love to hear how it goes if you try it. Hit reply and let me know!
